Almost all of the older high quality Swiss made Elna's have some parts gummed up with old oil deposits, which results in malfunction of one or more features. If the old oil has not already seized parts, it soon will, unless these old oil deposits have been removed and re-lubricated with a modern non gumming oil. Various degrees of gummy oil deposits may require several minutes or even weeks for the safe solvents we use to free up the Elna, so it is not a 'hurry up' job. Please don't ask me to ship your Elna without allowing time for the service to be performed to my standards. Typical shipping times are two to six weeks after receiving your deposit.
Most Elna's have one or more adjustments malfunctioning caused by amateur owner or untrained dealer repair. Many buyers are disappointed when their Elna arrives broken due to poor packaging or doesn't work because of amateuer service procedures and the seller says 'tough luck'. Eight to ten hours of labor is required to service every Elna to our standards before I sell it. I refuse to sell Elna's that I know will cause future problems just to satisfy the instant gratification demands in today's society.

Ask these questions BEFORE you buy an Elna from any seller.
1. Did you thoroughly remove all old oil deposits and re-lubricate with a non-gumming lubricant?
2. Did you test all features for proper performance, such as, zig zag, buttonhole, automatic stitches, etc.?
3. Do you have the Elna factory gauges to adjust the Elna to original factory standards?
4. Has the Elna been test run for at least one hour to check for overheating or breakdown of electronic components?
5. Do you offer a free 30 day warranty so I may decide if the Elna is performing like new?
6. Do you have the confidence in your product to offer an optional one year extended warranty at $60.00?
7. Do you offer an exchange or refund If the Elna is not as the seller represented it?
8. Do you package well and accept responsibilty for your packaging method?
9. If my Elna arrives damaged, and the carrier refuses to honor the insurance claim because damage was due to poor packaging, will you refund all of my money, including shipping, or exchange it for another machine? Or will they say 'you will get a refund after the carrier insurance pays', which is unlikely to happen.
10. Have you attended an Elna service training schools and are you familiar with Elna's factory recommended service procedures?
11. Do you have over 45 years of experience with Elna machines and do you offer free consultation if I need assistance learning to operate my Elna?

Elna Lotus, Stella and Elnita models

In comparison to a Singer featherweight sewing machine, the Elna Lotus or Stella zig zag models weigh less than 14 pounds with it's built in portable case. The straight stitch Singer featherweight weighs in at 19 pounds in it's case. All of the Lotus machines have zig zag stitches and most have additional built in stitches. Add Swiss Elna quality and you have a lightweight portable sewing machine that will outperform the featherweight.

Remember, these are not the typical Ebay machines where 'this machine has been serviced' can mean anything from 'I put a few drops of oil in it' to 'it was professionally serviced to factory specifications by an Elna factory trained service technician'. Descriptions such as 'Excellent condition, Mint, New or Like New' may not be what you expected since the seller and buyers concept of those terms are usually much different. 'Actual shipping' may be $80.00 or more. The typical seller terms 'I am not responsible for shipping damage.' likely means the seller has had several items damaged by poor packing and wishes to avoid future problems associated with their inadequate packaging method. Your machine could arrive damaged from inexperienced packing methods and no carrier insurance will pay for damage caused by poor packaging. See Shipping.
